Chapter 10 - The Warmth of a True Home

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the evening sky in breathtaking shades of deep violet, fiery orange, and soft amber. The outdoor lanterns along the stone pathways flickered to life, casting a warm, welcoming glow over the entire Duca estate.

The gathering in the gardens had wound down, with the staff families returning to their newly renovated cottages, full of good food and peace of mind. The heavy shadow of corporate betrayal, forced marriages, and ruthless suspicion had been completely erased, replaced by an unbreakable foundation of trust, loyalty, and genuine family.

I stood on the stone balcony of the master suite, looking out over the quiet courtyards.

Footsteps approached softly behind me. I didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

"Mr. Coffee?"

A small, sleepy voice piped up from the doorway.

I turned around to find Lily standing there, rubbing her tired eyes with one hand while clutching her one-eyed stuffed rabbit tightly in the other. Marta stood a few steps behind her, holding a soft blanket.

I walked over, kneeling down until I was at eye level with the little girl.

"Shouldn't a brave little girl like you be fast asleep by now?" I asked gently, a warm smile softening my features.

Lily yawned, her eyelids drooping heavily. "I came to say goodnight," she whispered softly. Then, with surprising speed, she stepped forward and wrapped her small arms around my neck, giving me a sleepy, affectionate hug.

I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close, feeling the incredible weight of responsibility—and the profound privilege—of being the one to keep her safe.

"Goodnight, Lily," I murmured against her hair. "Sleep well. You're completely safe here. Always."

Marta stepped forward gently, lifting Lily into her arms. The little girl rested her head against her mother’s shoulder, already drifting off to sleep. Marta offered me a deep, respectful bow, her eyes shining with unshed tears of happiness and gratitude.

"Goodnight, Master Lorenzo," Marta whispered.

"Goodnight, Marta."

They walked down the softly lit hallway toward the family quarters, disappearing into the warm, safe embrace of the estate.

Pino trotted over, sitting down heavily beside my boots, letting out a deep, relaxed sigh as he rested his chin on his paws.

I turned back toward the balcony, taking one final sip of my coffee as the cool night breeze swept gently through the gardens. My empire was secure, my house was clean, and my heart—once locked behind impenetrable walls of ice—was finally, truly warm.

I wasn't just Lorenzo Duca, the ruthless billionaire anymore.

I was their protector. And for the first time in my life, that was more than enough.

Chapter 15 - The Lion’s Den The grand library of the Duca manor had been converted into an operational war room by nightfall. The heavy velvet curtains were drawn tight, blocking any potential sightlines from the tree line. On the central mahogany table, blueprints of the Ironwood Ridge compound lay spread out beneath the glow of secure tablets and encrypted satellite uplinks.
Chapter 16 - Silent Infiltration The predawn chill at 02:45 AM felt like needles against exposed skin. A dense, low-hanging ground fog clung to the dense forest of the northern ridge, swallowing the black tactical gear of my eight-man strike unit. We moved in absolute silence along the decommissioned limestone quarry access path, fifty miles north of the Duca estate.
