Chapter 9 – The Empire Starts to Crack

At exactly 8:00 the next morning, federal agents entered Harrington Commercial Group headquarters.

Employees looked up from their desks in confusion.

No one spoke.

The lead agent approached reception.

"We have a federal warrant."

Within minutes, elevators stopped.

Computers were secured.

Servers disconnected.

Accounting offices sealed.

News spread floor by floor.

The CEO's office remained empty.

Richard was still at the hospital.

His phone exploded with calls.

Chief Financial Officer.

General Counsel.

Board Chairman.

He answered the first one.

"Richard..."

The chairman sounded panicked.

"The FBI is here."

Richard stopped walking.

"What?"

"They're taking everything."

"Who authorized this?"

"They have warrants."

Richard slowly lowered the phone.

Across the parking lot, Harrison watched from inside his car.

Beside him sat Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Brooks.

"You planned this well."

Harrison never smiled.

"I planned nothing."

"You collected evidence."

"I protected my sister."

Brooks nodded.

"And uncovered forty-eight million dollars."

Harrison looked toward the glass tower where Richard's employees stood watching agents carry out boxes of evidence.

"No."

He answered quietly.

"Richard uncovered that himself."

Inside the hospital, Richard turned another corner—

—and found two uniformed federal agents waiting outside Khloe's room.

One stepped forward.

"Richard Harrington?"

"Yes?"

"We need to ask you several questions regarding financial fraud, wire transfers, and insurance fraud."

Richard looked around desperately.

"Harrison!"

May you like

But Harrison had already walked away.

He never looked back.
