Chapter 7 – Every Camera Was Watching
While surgeons fought to save Khloe and her unborn daughter, Harrison walked back toward the courthouse.
The plaza had already been sealed with yellow police tape.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses.
Vanessa sat alone on a nearby bench.
Her hands trembled uncontrollably.
She kept repeating the same sentence.
"It was an accident."
A detective frowned.
"Witnesses disagree."
"I barely touched her."
"You pushed an eight-month-pregnant woman."
"I didn't mean—"
"You pushed her."
Harrison walked past without acknowledging her.
Inside the courthouse security office, technicians were already reviewing surveillance footage.
The chief deputy recognized Harrison immediately.
"Mr. Cole."
"I need the recordings preserved."
"They already are."
"Every angle."
The deputy nodded.
"We have six cameras."
A technician pressed play.
Camera One showed the full staircase.
Camera Two captured the argument.
Camera Three zoomed in from above.
No blind spots.
No obstruction.
No uncertainty.
Everyone in the room watched in silence.
Vanessa stepped forward.
Khloe attempted to walk away.
Vanessa blocked her path.
Then—
both hands extended.
A violent shove.
Khloe disappeared backward.
The room remained silent.
The technician paused the video.
"I don't think that's self-defense."
"No."
Harrison answered quietly.
"It isn't."
A detective looked toward him.
"Do you want to watch it again?"
Harrison stared at the frozen image of his sister falling.
"No."
"I've seen enough."
He handed the detective a flash drive.
"Financial records."
The detective frowned.
"Why?"
"Because attempted murder isn't the only crime involved."
The detective opened the files.
Millions of dollars.
Shell corporations.
Hidden accounts.
Fraud.
Insurance changes.
The detective looked back up.
"This case just got much bigger."
"It always was."
Outside, reporters had begun arriving.
Television vans lined the courthouse.
One question spread through every newsroom.
