Chapter 1 – The Brother They Never Expected

Khloe sat motionless inside Harrison Cole's Manhattan office, one trembling hand resting over the life growing beneath her heart.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city glittered beneath the evening sky. Inside, silence filled the room.

Harrison read every screenshot twice.

Every transfer.

Every photograph.

Every cruel message.

When he finally placed the tablet on his desk, he folded his hands together.

"I need one answer."

Khloe looked up.

"Do you still love him?"

The question struck harder than any accusation.

Tears filled her eyes before she could stop them.

"I love the man I married."

She swallowed.

"I don't know the man he became."

Harrison nodded once.

"Good."

She frowned.

"Good?"

"Because that means you're mourning someone who no longer exists."

He stood and walked toward the window.

"For two years Richard has hidden assets through shell companies."

He pointed toward one document.

"These aren't random transfers."

Another.

"Someone designed this."

Another.

"Someone expected a divorce."

Khloe felt sick.

"He planned all of it."

"He planned to leave you with debt while he disappeared with the money."

Harrison's voice remained calm.

Too calm.

"The affair isn't the biggest problem anymore."

"What is?"

He turned toward her.

"Financial fraud."

He pressed a button on his desk.

His assistant entered immediately.

"Cancel tomorrow's hearings."

She blinked.

"All of them?"

"Every one."

"But the Governor's arbitration—"

"I said every one."

She nodded and hurried away.

Khloe stared.

"You've never canceled court."

"I haven't."

"Then why now?"

He looked directly at his younger sister.

"Because nothing in Pennsylvania matters more than protecting my family."

For the first time that day, Khloe broke.

She buried her face in her hands.

"I failed."

"No."

Harrison knelt beside her.

"You trusted."

"There is a difference."

He reached into a drawer and placed a small recorder on the desk.

"From this moment forward, every conversation with Richard is evidence."

He handed her a second phone.

"Use this."

"A burner?"

He nodded.

"Assume every device in your house is compromised."

Khloe stared at him.

"Do you really think he'd go that far?"

Harrison answered without hesitation.

"I think he already has."

Neither of them noticed the black SUV parked across the street.

Inside, a woman wearing oversized sunglasses lowered a pair of binoculars.

Vanessa Kensington smiled.

"So..."

she whispered.

"The brother finally knows."

May you like

She picked up her phone.

"It's time to accelerate the plan."
