Chapter 10 – A Sister Opens Her Eyes

For thirty-six hours, Khloe drifted in and out of darkness.

Machines filled the intensive care room with steady electronic rhythms. Every beep reminded Harrison that his sister was still fighting.

He never left.

He ignored calls from clients, judges, and television networks.

Nothing mattered except the woman lying in the hospital bed.

Shortly after sunrise, Khloe's fingers twitched.

Harrison stood immediately.

"Khloe?"

Her eyelids fluttered.

Everything was blurry.

The ceiling.

The lights.

The tubes connected to her arms.

Then she saw Harrison.

"Harry..."

His shoulders relaxed for the first time since the accident.

"You scared me."

Her lips trembled.

"The baby..."

Harrison smiled through tears.

"She's alive."

Khloe closed her eyes as tears escaped.

"Our daughter?"

"A beautiful little girl."

"Can I see her?"

"Soon."

A doctor entered with a gentle smile.

"You've been through major surgery."

Khloe nodded weakly.

Then another question surfaced.

"Richard..."

The room fell silent.

Harrison pulled his chair closer.

"He isn't allowed near you."

Khloe stared.

"You did that?"

"I did."

She looked away.

"I don't even know who I married."

"No."

Harrison replied softly.

"But you're finally learning."

Just then, a nurse wheeled in a portable incubator.

Inside, wrapped in a tiny pink blanket, slept a fragile baby girl.

Khloe gasped.

"Oh..."

She reached through the opening with trembling fingers.

The baby's tiny hand wrapped around hers.

A nurse whispered,

"She hasn't let go of anyone else's finger."

Khloe smiled for the first time in weeks.

"My Grace."

Harrison looked surprised.

"You've chosen a name?"

May you like

Khloe nodded.

"Because grace is the only reason we're both alive."
