Chapter 9 - The Evidence Inside The VaultCharles looked at the clock.

“We don’t have much time.”

Ethan frowned.

“Why?”

Charles looked toward the door.

“Because Victoria did not come here alone.”

Everyone became alert.

Emily immediately moved closer.

“What do you mean?”

Charles lowered his voice.

“There is someone else involved.”

Victoria remained silent.

Too silent.

Ethan looked at her.

“Who?”

Before Charles could answer.

A sudden sound came from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Heavy footsteps.

Approaching the cabin.

Everyone froze.

Victoria looked toward the door.

And Ethan saw it again.

Fear.

Not fake.

Not controlled.

Real.

The door handle moved.

Slowly.

Everyone prepared themselves.

But nobody expected the person who entered.

A man in his forties.

Wearing a black suit.

Cold expression.

Familiar face.

Victoria’s personal security director.

Marcus Hale.

Ethan immediately recognized him.

“You work for Mom.”

Marcus looked around.

Then smiled.

“I work for whoever pays.”

Victoria stared at him.

“You were supposed to wait.”

Marcus shrugged.

“Plans changed.”

Charles whispered.

“This is exactly why we need to leave.”

Ethan looked confused.

“Leave?”

Charles nodded.

“Your mother prepared this trip because she wanted Clara removed from the board.”

“She knew Clara discovered the evidence.”

“She planned to force the signature.”

“And if that failed…”

He paused.

Ethan understood.

The room became silent.

Nobody wanted to say the next words.

Victoria looked at Marcus.

“You promised me there would be no mistakes.”

Marcus replied calmly.

“There was one mistake.”

He looked at Ethan.

“You arrived early.”

Ethan felt cold.

Because now he knew.

The train was never just a trip.

It was a trap.

And everyone inside had a role.

Except him.

He was never supposed to see the truth.

The train continued racing into the unknown.

And somewhere ahead.

May you like

A second plan was already waiting.
