Then she whispered.

Ethan searched her face.
“You expect me to believe that?”
“Yes.”

“I never wanted your father dead.”

“He was the only person who ever challenged me.”

“And that was why I hated him.”

Marcus stepped back.
Victoria looked at him.
“You told me you handled it.”
Marcus remained silent.
Ethan felt sick.
“What does that mean?”
Victoria’s voice became cold.
“I told him to stop Daniel from exposing the foundation.”
“Nothing more.”
Charles stared.
“You hired him.”
Victoria looked away.
“Yes.”
The confession shocked everyone.
“But I never ordered him to kill my husband.”
Marcus finally spoke.
“You wanted the problem removed.”
Victoria turned toward him.
“You knew what I meant.”
Marcus smiled.
“You always pretend you are innocent after someone else does your dirty work.”
The accusation hit hard.
Because it sounded true.
Ethan looked between them.
A terrifying realization formed.
His mother may not have pulled the trigger.
