Chapter 7 - The Truth Buried With The FatherThe cabin felt smaller than before.

The walls seemed to move closer.

The air became heavier.

Nobody looked away from Charles Whitmore.

Especially not Ethan.

Because the words he had just heard were impossible.

His father did not die in an accident.

His father was trying to escape his mother.

Those two sentences destroyed everything Ethan had believed about his childhood.

For years.

He had remembered his father as a tragic hero.

A successful businessman.

A loving father.

A man who died too soon.

But now.

A terrifying possibility appeared.

Maybe his father had not left this world by accident.

Maybe someone had helped him leave.

“Tell me everything.”

Ethan’s voice was low.

But there was no hesitation.

Charles looked at Victoria.

“She will try to stop me.”

Victoria immediately stepped forward.

“You have no proof.”

Charles smiled slightly.

“That is exactly what you said twenty years ago.”

The matriarch’s face changed.

A small crack appeared in her perfect control.

Ethan noticed.

And so did Clara.

“You remember.”

Clara whispered.

Victoria looked at her daughter.

“Stay out of this.”

The old command.

The same command she had used for years.

But this time.

Clara did not lower her head.

“No.”

Victoria froze.

Clara slowly stood.

Her legs were still weak.

Her body was still exhausted.

But something inside her had changed.

“I stayed quiet because I was afraid.”

She looked directly at her mother.

“But I am not afraid anymore.”

The words surprised everyone.

Especially Ethan.

Because he had never seen his sister like this.

Not broken.

Not fragile.

Strong.

Charles nodded.

“That is exactly what your father wanted.”

Ethan looked at him.

“What?”

Charles reached into his coat.

He pulled out an old envelope.

The paper was yellowed.

Aged.

But carefully preserved.

“This was supposed to be delivered to you on your twenty-fifth birthday.”

Ethan stared.

“Why didn’t I receive it?”

Charles looked at Victoria.

Nobody needed an explanation.

Ethan understood.

His mother had stopped it.

His hands shook as he took the envelope.

The name written on the front made his breath disappear.

Ethan Sterling.

His father’s handwriting.

The handwriting he remembered from childhood birthday cards.

He opened it carefully.

Inside was a single page.

Only a few paragraphs.

But the first sentence destroyed him.

My son, if you are reading this, something has gone terribly wrong.

Ethan stopped breathing.

The cabin became silent.

He continued reading.

I need you to understand one thing.

Your mother was not always the person she is today.

Ethan looked up.

Victoria looked away.

But power changed her.

Money changed her.

Fear changed her.

The paper trembled in Ethan’s hand.

I discovered that the foundation was being used for purposes I could not accept.

When I confronted her, she told me she was protecting our family.

But protecting a family does not mean destroying everyone inside it.

Ethan swallowed.

Then he reached the final lines.

If anything happens to me, do not trust anyone who tells you to forget.

The truth always survives.

The letter ended.

No signature.

No explanation.

Only one final sentence.

Take care of Clara.

Ethan lowered the paper.

His eyes filled with emotion.

Because suddenly he understood.

His father knew.

May you like

His father had tried.

And nobody listened.
