Chapter 1 - The Moment Everything Fell ApartThe train continued cutting through the mountains.

The wheels screamed against the tracks.

The luxury cabin remained frozen in silence.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Only the vibration of the speeding train filled the room.

Ethan Sterling stood at the doorway.

His hand was still gripping the metal handle.

His eyes remained locked on the scene in front of him.

His sister, Clara.

Lying on the wooden floor.

Covered in tears.

Covered in the strange orange liquid.

Breathing like every breath was a battle.

And standing above her.

His mother.

Victoria Sterling.

The woman who had always appeared untouchable.

The woman who had built an empire with her intelligence and determination.

The woman everyone feared.

But never questioned.

Until now.

Ethan slowly looked down at the broken glass pieces scattered across the floor.

Then his eyes moved toward the legal documents soaked beside them.

Power of attorney papers.

Medical authorization forms.

Inheritance agreements.

His stomach tightened.

Because he recognized those papers.

They were the documents his mother had told everyone were prepared to "protect Clara."

Protect.

That was the word Victoria had used.

But what Ethan saw was something completely different.

He looked back at his mother.

Victoria quickly adjusted her velvet blazer.

Her face tried to return to its usual calm expression.

But Ethan saw it.

The fear hidden behind her eyes.

The panic she could not control.

“Ethan…”

Her voice was softer now.

Almost gentle.

Almost like the mother he remembered.

But something inside him had changed.

Because for the first time in his life.

He questioned whether he had ever truly known her.

“What happened here?”

His voice was quiet.

But filled with pain.

Victoria took one step forward.

“This is not what you think.”

Ethan stared at her.

Then he looked at Clara.

His younger sister.

The person Victoria had spent years calling fragile.

Difficult.

Unstable.

A burden.

Clara tried to speak.

But only a painful cough escaped.

Ethan immediately rushed toward her.

“Clara.”

He dropped to his knees.

He ignored the expensive suit getting dirty on the wooden floor.

He ignored the broken glass.

He ignored his mother’s voice behind him.

He only cared about his sister.

“Can you hear me?”

Clara opened her eyes.

For several seconds.

She looked confused.

Then she saw him.

And the fear in her expression became even stronger.

Because she knew something Ethan did not.

Something much darker.

She grabbed his sleeve weakly.

“Don’t…”

Her voice barely existed.

Ethan leaned closer.

“What?”

Clara struggled to breathe.

“Don’t trust her.”

The words hit him harder than anything else.

Ethan froze.

Behind him.

Victoria became completely still.

The train continued moving.

But inside that cabin.

Everything stopped.
