Chapter 8 - The Handcuffs and the Ring

The sound of loud, wailing sirens began to echo from the street outside the hotel. The flashing blue and red lights penetrated the tall arched windows of the ballroom, casting a surreal, rhythmic pattern over the ruined reception.

The heavy mahogany doors were unlocked by security, and a dozen uniformed police officers, led by two detectives in plain clothes, marched into the room.

The lead detective, a stern-faced woman named Detective Miller, walked directly to Fiona and Mr. Harrison.

"We received a report of physical assault, grand theft, and corporate financial fraud," Detective Miller said, her notepad in hand.

"Indeed," Fiona said, handing over a physical folder containing the printed audit, the digital signature traces, and a USB drive containing the high-definition security footage from the bridal suite. "Here is the complete evidentiary package, Detective. You will find that the physical assault of Mrs. Vivienne Sterling Vance was witnessed by approximately two hundred people in this room."

Detective Miller nodded, then turned toward Chloe and Eleanor.

"Chloe Vance, Eleanor Vance, and Amanda Vance," the detective called out. "You are under arrest for conspiracy, grand theft, corporate financial fraud, and assault."

"No!" Chloe screamed, struggling as an officer grabbed her wrists and pulled them behind her back. "You can't do this! This is my wedding! Lucas, help me!"

Lucas didn't even look at her. He walked over to the wedding officiant, his face pale but determined. "Is there a fast-track process for an annulment? Because I am not spending another second married to a criminal."

Eleanor was silent as the cold steel handcuffs clicked around her wrists. Her regal, arrogant posture was completely gone, replaced by the slumped shoulders of a woman who realized her empire of lies had collapsed.

As they were being led out, Dominic rushed toward me, tears streaming down his face.

"Vivienne! Please!" he sobbed, reaching out to touch my hand. "We are having a baby! You can't do this to our child's father! Think about Rose! Think about our future!"

"Our child will never grow up in a home where her mother is treated like garbage," I said, my voice cutting through his desperation. "She will never learn that love means tolerating abuse and staying silent in the face of cruelty."

I reached into Fiona's coat, pulled out a thick, white envelope, and dropped it onto the floor at his feet.

"What is this?" Dominic whispered.

"Divorce papers," I said. "They were drafted last week, right after I found the forged documents. I was hoping against hope that you would prove me wrong tonight. I was hoping you would stand up for me when your sister accused me. But you didn't."

I looked at him one last time.

"You stayed silent. So now, the law will speak for me."

Two officers grabbed Dominic's arms. "Mr. Vance, you are also being detained for questioning regarding the forgery and corporate fraud. Please come with us."

As they dragged him away, the ballroom was filled with the sound of camera shutters. The photographers, who had been hired to capture Chloe's perfect wedding, were now capturing the absolute, public downfall of the Vance family.
