Chapter 11 - MY FATHER WASN’T MY FATHER

Alexander Blackwood had been difficult.
But he loved me.
I still believe that.
He also concealed my biological paternity.
Why?
Thomas Whitmore was married.
Scandal.
Business relationships.
And Alexander and Vivian desperately wanted a child.
The arrangement benefited everyone except future me.
Margaret Reed, my biological mother, signed adoption papers.
Evidence suggested the adoption itself had genuine maternal consent.
The fraudulent part involved paternity concealment and alterations designed to prevent Thomas’s name appearing anywhere.
That distinction mattered.
I had not been kidnapped.
I had been adopted through a process contaminated by lies.
Thomas paid substantial money to Grace after she assisted with maintaining confidentiality.
Grace later regretted her role.
Amelia discovered this decades later while reviewing her father’s papers after his death.
She began trying to correct it.
Then cancer intervened.
The tragedy was not that she had hidden the truth from me maliciously.
She was running out of time.
She made the mistake of delaying the hardest conversation.
Then lost the chance.
I was angry at her for months.
Dead people can still disappoint you.
Eventually I forgave her.
May you like
Not because death made her perfect.
Because I understood fear.
