The warehouse stood beside the river.
Abandoned.
Dark.

Too silent.
Lorenzo's team surrounded the building.
Nora remained in the vehicle.
She could barely breathe.
Lorenzo opened her door.
“You stay here.”
“No.”
“Nora.”
“My daughter is inside.”
“I know.”
“Then I'm going with you.”
He looked at her.
Finally, he nodded.
They entered.
The warehouse smelled of dust and oil.
Broken windows allowed moonlight to spill across the concrete floor.
“Lily!”
Nora's voice echoed.
Nothing.
Lorenzo raised his hand.
Everyone stopped.
A faint sound came from somewhere.
A baby crying.
Nora's heart stopped.
“She’s here.”
They followed the sound.
It led to a concrete wall.
There was no door.
No opening.
Nothing.
Lorenzo examined the wall.
Then Antonio noticed a metal panel.
He pressed it.

Nora stepped forward.
She remembered the brass key.
She pulled it from her pocket.

A hidden door opened.
Nora rushed inside.

Nora grabbed her daughter and held her against her chest.

Lily immediately quieted.

His eyes closed.
For the first time that night, he allowed himself to breathe.

Richard was gone.
Antonio cursed.
“He escaped.”
Lorenzo's security team searched the warehouse.
Nothing.
Nora looked at the hidden room.
There was a table.
A chair.
And another ledger.
But this one was different.
It contained names of people who had secretly funded Richard.
Nora picked it up.
“Lorenzo.”
He walked toward her.
“What?”
She showed him.
He turned pale.
“This goes higher than I thought.”
“How high?”
“Federal.”
Nora stared.
“Politicians?”
“More than that.”
“Who?”
“People who can make evidence disappear.”
Antonio looked at the pages.
“We can't fight them openly.”
Nora looked at him.
“Then we don't.”
Everyone stared.
She closed the ledger.
“We expose them.”
