Chapter 4: The Price of Betrayal

### Chapter 4: The Price of Betrayal

A silence heavier than death swallowed the entire VIP suite.

No one dared breathe.

No one dared move.

Only the steady rhythm of Chloe's heart monitor continued to echo through the room, a fragile reminder that life still existed amid the ruins of the Sterling family.

Victoria remained collapsed on the polished marble floor, one manicured hand pressed against her burning cheek.

The sting from Richard's slap was nothing compared to the humiliation.

For thirty years she had ruled this family like an untouchable queen.

Board members stood when she entered a room.

Employees lowered their eyes.

Even ministers and billionaires treated her with cautious respect.

Now...

She had been struck like a common criminal.

In front of everyone.

Her carefully crafted image shattered beyond repair.

She slowly lifted her head.

Hatred burned inside her eyes.

Not fear.

Not regret.

Hatred.

She stared directly at Chloe.

"This should have been you," she thought.

"You should have died on that operating table."

---

Across the room, Arthur remained on his knees.

His expensive tailored suit was wrinkled.

His hands shook uncontrollably.

He had spent his entire life believing he was destined to inherit the Sterling empire.

Since childhood, every tutor, every executive, every family gathering had reminded him of one truth.

"One day, everything will belong to you."

Now...

One sentence from his grandfather had erased thirty-five years of certainty.

No inheritance.

No shares.

No title.

Nothing.

He looked toward Richard with desperate eyes.

"Grandfather..."

His voice cracked.

"I made a mistake."

Richard didn't even acknowledge him.

The old patriarch continued staring out the hospital window as though Arthur no longer existed.

For Richard...

His eldest grandson had died the moment he chose silence over his wife.

---

Attorney Harrison calmly opened his leather briefcase.

Unlike everyone else, his hands remained perfectly steady.

He removed several official documents before speaking.

"Chairman."

"The emergency resolutions have already been transmitted to the board."

He checked his tablet.

"The banks have acknowledged the asset freeze."

Another notification appeared.

"Security has been instructed to revoke Mrs. Victoria Sterling's executive clearance."

A second later...

Another message.

"Mr. Arthur Sterling's access to Sterling Tower has also been terminated."

Arthur's face turned ghostly white.

"No..."

His voice was barely audible.

"My office..."

"My security codes..."

"My accounts..."

"They can't..."

"They already have."

Attorney Harrison looked at him without emotion.

"Effective immediately."

Arthur suddenly remembered something.

"My phone."

With trembling fingers he reached into his pocket.

The screen lit up.

One notification after another flooded the display.

Corporate Credit Card Suspended.

Executive Access Revoked.

Private Jet Authorization Cancelled.

Board Membership Removed.

Each notification struck harder than the last.

Everything...

Gone within sixty seconds.

---

Victoria finally found her voice.

"This is illegal!"

She staggered to her feet.

"You can't destroy my life because of one emotional decision!"

Richard slowly turned.

His expression remained terrifyingly calm.

"Illegal?"

His cane struck the marble.

CLACK.

"You forged medical directives."

CLACK.

"You attempted to coerce a patient immediately after emergency surgery."

CLACK.

"You tried to steal custody of an unborn child."

Another step.

"You attempted to erase the child's mother from history."

Victoria's lips trembled.

Richard's voice became quieter.

Which somehow made it even more frightening.

"You should be thanking God..."

"...that Chloe survived."

---

The hospital doors slid open once again.

Three uniformed police detectives entered the suite.

Behind them came the hospital's chief medical director.

Everyone immediately stood aside.

One detective approached Richard respectfully.

"Mr. Sterling."

"We've received your report."

Richard nodded once.

"The victim is here."

He gestured toward Chloe.

"The suspects are standing in front of you."

Victoria's eyes widened.

"What report?"

Richard looked directly at her.

"The report I submitted six hours ago."

Her heart nearly stopped.

"Before I entered this room..."

"I had already watched the security recordings."

Arthur looked up in confusion.

"Security recordings?"

Richard's icy gaze swept across them.

"I installed hidden cameras in every VIP family suite years ago."

"No Sterling family member knew."

"They were activated after I received anonymous information that someone intended to manipulate my medical condition."

Victoria's breathing became shallow.

She hadn't known.

No one had.

Richard continued.

"The cameras recorded everything."

He looked at Chloe.

"Every threat."

He looked at the lawyer.

"Every document."

Finally...

His eyes settled upon Arthur.

"And every second..."

"...that you stood there..."

"...while your wife begged for help."

Arthur felt the blood drain from his face.

No.

No...

Not that.

Anything but that.

The detective quietly spoke.

"We'll need copies of those recordings."

Attorney Harrison handed over a secure flash drive.

"They've already been encrypted and duplicated."

The detective accepted it.

"Thank you."

Victoria suddenly lunged forward.

"No!"

She reached desperately toward the flash drive.

"You can't—"

Before she could take another step—

Two officers seized her arms.

Metal handcuffs snapped shut around her wrists.

The sharp metallic click echoed through the room.

For the first time in decades...

Lady Victoria Sterling looked powerless.

Completely powerless.

She stared at the steel around her wrists as if she couldn't comprehend what had happened.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

She had controlled judges.

Influenced politicians.

Destroyed rivals.

Yet today...

She couldn't even stop a pair of ordinary handcuffs.

---

Meanwhile...

On the hospital bed...

Chloe quietly watched everything unfold.

The woman who had tried to erase her...

The husband who had abandoned her...

Both stood broken before the law.

But strangely...

She felt no joy.

Only exhaustion.

She slowly lowered one trembling hand onto her swollen belly.

A tiny kick answered from inside.

Her baby was alive.

Safe.

A single tear rolled down her cheek.

Not a tear of grief.

Not a tear of revenge.

A tear of relief.

Mr. Richard noticed.

He gently covered her hand with his own.

"You don't have to fight anymore, child."

His voice was softer than anyone had ever heard.

"I'll carry the battle from here."

May you like

For the first time since entering the Sterling family...

Chloe finally believed him.
