Chapter 18 - The Master Ledger

For forty-eight hours, I did not sleep.

My home office became a fortified bunker of digital surveillance. I bypassed traditional banking nodes, diving deep into the encrypted offshore ledgers Arthur Sterling used to hide his wealth.

By Sunday night, the puzzle was complete.

Liam walked into the office carrying a fresh pot of coffee. He set it on the desk and stood behind me, staring at the chaotic web of red lines connecting shell companies on my dual monitors.

"Did you find it?" Liam asked softly.

"I found a graveyard," I breathed, leaning back in my chair.

I pointed to a massive holding company registered in Luxembourg.

"Arthur didn't just fabricate the evidence against you, Liam," I explained, the sheer, staggering scale of the crime coming into focus. "He has been using high-end art acquisitions to launder money for a global opioid cartel. Vanguard Pharmaceuticals isn't a medical company. It’s a front. He ships unregulated narcotics to Europe, and the cartel pays him by purchasing over-valued art through anonymous proxy buyers."

Liam stared at the screen, absolute horror washing over his face. "He’s laundering blood money through the art world."

"And he used the exact same Luxembourg routing numbers to buy your entire collection on Thursday night," I said, a cold, predatory smile touching my lips. "He thought he was threatening us. But what he actually did was willingly tie his illegal cartel funds directly to a fully transparent, federally audited gallery account."

"He exposed himself," Liam realized.

"He handed me the murder weapon with his fingerprints on it," I corrected.

I printed the master ledger. It was two hundred pages of irrefutable, federal felonies. Tax evasion, international drug trafficking, and money laundering.

"We give this to the FBI tomorrow morning," Liam said, reaching for the file.

"No," I said, stopping his hand. "If we give it to the FBI quietly, Arthur’s lawyers will stall the indictment for years. He will drag your name through the mud in the press while he fights the charges."

I looked up at Liam, the invisible, terrified woman of my past permanently erased by the queen I had become.

"Arthur likes art," I said, standing up and grabbing my blazer. "So, we are going to paint him a masterpiece. Publicly."
