To get into the penthouse, we needed to draw away Julian's heavily armed perimeter guards.
My mother volunteered to be the distraction.
"It's too dangerous, Mom," I argued, my heart clenching with panic.
"I lost your father to that monster, Elena," she replied, her voice steady and resolute.
"I am not going to lose you, and I am not going to hide anymore."
We formulated a plan to plant explosives at Julian's primary shipping warehouse across town.
When the bombs went off, his security team would scramble to secure his assets.
That would leave the penthouse vulnerable for exactly twelve minutes.
We synchronized our watches in the dim light of Marcus's armory.
I strapped a tactical vest over my black combat suit, holstering two sidearms and a combat knife.
"Twelve minutes, Elena," Marcus reminded me, loading a sniper rifle.
"Get in, get the ledger, put a bullet in him, and get out."
