Chapter 13 - The Confession.

The heavy steel door slammed shut behind us, locking automatically.
We were sealed inside the soundproof vault, completely cut off from the chaos outside.
Julian scrambled backward, grasping for a decorative sword mounted on the wall.
I kicked the back of his knee, sending him crashing to the floor.
I stood over him, my pistol aimed squarely at the center of his forehead.
He held up his hands, his arrogant demeanor instantly dissolving into pathetic cowardice.
"Wait, Elena, please! I can give you everything," he begged, tears welling in his eyes.
"Why did you do it?" I demanded, pressing the hot barrel of the gun against his temple.
"Why did you beat me on our wedding night? Why did you kill my father?"
Julian swallowed hard, his eyes darting around the small room.
"Your father... he was an undercover informant for the feds," Julian gasped out.
"He arranged the marriage so he could get close enough to steal my ledger."
The revelation hit me with the force of a freight train.
My father wasn't just a businessman; he had been trying to take down the syndicate from the inside.
"He used you, Elena!" Julian cried, trying to turn my anger away from him.
