Chapter 7: The Truth Daniel Hid

The mansion felt smaller with Daniel Cross standing inside it.

For years, Adrian had welcomed him through those doors.

They had celebrated victories together.

They had built companies together.

They had sat beside each other during the darkest days of Adrian’s life.

And now Daniel stood beneath the same chandelier, looking completely comfortable.

Almost like he belonged there.

Adrian’s eyes moved between Daniel and Vanessa.

“You were behind this?”

Daniel gave a quiet smile.

“Behind what?”

“The threats. The hidden files. The photograph of my daughter.”

Daniel sighed.

“You always were impatient, Adrian. Always looking for an enemy before understanding the entire story.”

Mateo stepped forward.

“Careful.”

Daniel looked at him.

“Still protecting him after all these years?”

Mateo’s expression hardened.

“More than you ever did.”

The words landed.

Daniel’s smile disappeared.

Adrian walked closer.

“Tell me about Evelyn.”

For the first time, Daniel looked uncomfortable.

“She found something.”

“What?”

“She discovered that your company was being used for illegal transactions.”

Adrian froze.

“My company?”

Daniel nodded.

“Not by you. But by people around you.”

Adrian looked toward Vanessa.

She looked away.

The pieces started connecting.

“Vanessa knew.”

Daniel didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Adrian’s anger grew colder.

“She married me because of the company.”

Vanessa finally spoke.

“You never loved me.”

Adrian looked at her.

“You never loved me either.”

The silence after that was brutal.

Clara stood quietly, watching the powerful family collapse under the weight of its own lies.

But something bothered her.

Daniel was admitting things.

Too easily.

Like he wanted them to know.

“Why tell us now?” Clara asked.

Everyone looked at her.

Daniel smiled.

“Because I’m tired of hiding.”

Clara shook her head.

“No.”

Her voice was calm.

“You’re not confessing.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“You’re controlling the story.”

Adrian looked at her.

“What do you mean?”

Clara stepped forward.

“He wants you angry. He wants you focused on Vanessa and the company.”

She looked directly at Daniel.

“But he still hasn’t answered the most important question.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

“What question?”

Clara replied:

“Why was Evelyn trying to expose you before she died?”

The room became silent.

Daniel’s confidence disappeared for half a second.

But Clara noticed.

And Adrian noticed too.

Mateo suddenly received a notification on his phone.

He looked at the screen.

Then his face changed.

“Adrian…”

“What?”

Mateo turned the phone around.

A recovered security file had been opened.

The timestamp showed:

Two years ago. The night Evelyn died.

And attached was a video.

Adrian pressed play.

The screen showed Evelyn standing in the Ashford garage.

Alive.

Terrified.

Holding a folder.

Then another person entered the frame.

Someone whose face was hidden.

Evelyn turned toward them and said:

“Please… you don’t have to do this.”

The figure stepped closer.

And then the camera angle changed.

Everyone in the room stopped breathing.

Because the person who walked toward Evelyn…

Was not Daniel.

Was not Vanessa.

It was someone Adrian had trusted his entire life.

Someone whose betrayal would hurt more than any enemy.

The video froze.

May you like

And Clara whispered:

“Your father…”
