Chapter 5 - The Trap SpringsInstead of fashion sketches, the screen displayed a high-definition video recording.

The timestamp at the bottom read: Three Days Ago - 11:45 PM.

The video showed a private room at the Grandview Club. Vanessa Sinclair was sitting on a leather armchair, holding a glass of wine, speaking to a nervous young woman sitting across from her—Chloe Vance.

The audio played crystal clear through the ballroom’s million-dollar sound system:

"I don't care what you have to swear to in the affidavit, Chloe," Vanessa’s recorded voice echoed through the hall. "Just sign the document saying you created the silver gown concepts in 2024. My father will deposit the remaining one million dollars into your Panama account as soon as the injunction is served."

"But Miss Sinclair," Chloe’s hesitant voice replied on the video. "The design patents for the silver weave were filed by Elena Whitmore four years ago in Paris while she was still studying at the Chambre Syndicale. The timestamped blockchain records are public!"

"Who cares about Paris?" Vanessa snapped on screen, her face twisted in malice. "The public doesn't look at patent registries! They look at headlines! By the time she proves she owns it, her brand launch will be ruined, and her father will be forced to renegotiate our logistics contract to buy our silence!"

The ballroom was dead silent.

Vanessa’s face drained of every last drop of color. Her knees literally trembled beneath her white suit.

"No..." she whispered, stumbling back against her father. "No, no, no... that's... that's a fake! That's an AI generated video!"

Julian Sinclair looked like he was having a heart attack. "Turn it off! Turn that off right now!"

"Keep watching," Elena said calmly from the stage. "It gets better."

The video cut to a second file: a bank transfer ledger showing two million dollars moving directly from Sinclair Global’s corporate operational account into Chloe Vance’s offshore shell company—signed off personally by Julian Sinclair.

Before anyone could speak, the rear doors of the ballroom opened once more.

This time, it wasn't security guards or reporters.

Four agents in dark suits with federal badges pinned to their lapels walked down the aisle, accompanied by Marcus Whitmore and two senior prosecutors from the State Attorney's Office.

"Julian Sinclair? Vanessa Sinclair?" the lead federal agent said, stopping beside the terrified father and daughter. "I am Agent Miller with the Financial Crimes Division. You are both under arrest for conspiracy, corporate extortion, wire fraud, and filing false legal affidavits in a federal court."

"This is a mistake!" Julian yelled, his voice cracking into a desperate shriek as the agents pulled his hands behind his back. "Marcus! Marcus, talk to me! We've been business partners for five years!"

Marcus Whitmore stepped forward, placing a hand gently on the shoulder of his daughter, who was looking down at them from the runway.

"We were never partners, Julian," Marcus said coldly. "You were a vendor. And vendors who attempt to destroy my daughter end up in a federal penitentiary."

As the handcuffs clicked shut around Vanessa’s wrists, she looked up at Elena, her eyes filled with hysterical tears.

"Elena! Please!" Vanessa wept, her polished, elite facade completely dissolved into pathetic groans. "I'm sorry! I was jealous! I was angry because everyone was looking at you! Please don't do this to my family!"

Elena looked down at Vanessa with neither anger nor triumph—only a quiet, profound pity.

"You tore my dress because you thought it had no value, Vanessa," Elena said softly, her voice echoing through the room. "And in doing so, you showed the entire world that the only thing cheap in this room... was you."

The press flashed their cameras furiously as Vanessa and her father were led out of the ballroom in handcuffs, their names ruined, their company bankrupted, and their freedom gone.
