Chapter 5 - There was solid logic in his argument.

“Are you asking me out? Officially this time?”
“I am. Doing it terribly because I’m nervous.”
He gave a small, self-deprecating laugh.
“Alexia Summers, will you date me? Publicly, officially, with all the complications that come with it?”
The smile spreading across my face was impossible to contain.
“Yes. Obviously yes. It was always yes.”
He kissed me then, deep and right and sealing something that had started with a poster kissed in a moment of madness and had grown into something real and scary and absolutely perfect.
We decided that on Monday, we would have a meeting with HR for appropriate disclosure. I would be transferred to the strategy department as junior VP, a real promotion with a salary increase, reporting to Marcus instead of Elliot. We would still work together daily, but without the direct subordination that violated company policies.
“Ready for everyone to know?” Elliot asked that night at his apartment while we were curled up on the couch.
“Terrified,” I admitted honestly. “But ready. You?”
“More than ready. I want to be able to kiss you whenever I want without having to lock doors.”

He demonstrated by kissing me in a way that made very clear exactly what he meant.
For the 1st time since it all started, there was no fear or uncertainty, only the certainty that we were going to make this work, no matter what anyone else thought.
