Chapter 3 - Trapped in the Web

Rodrigo didn't kill Julian—not yet. He was far too calculating for that. Instead, he had his men drag Julian down into the mansion’s soundproofed, subterranean basement vault, locking him away to use his sudden disappearance as the ultimate bait to draw Mariana out of hiding.
Simultaneously, the Salcedos deployed their immense political leverage. Within hours, a corrupt federal judge issued a highly confidential, nationwide red notice for Mariana Salcedo.
The rewritten narrative was terrifying: Mariana was no longer dead; instead, she was classified as an armed, extremely dangerous fugitive suffering from a severe, violent psychotic break, who had kidnapped her own son, Nico, and was actively fleeing the law.
Suddenly, the playing field shifted drastically. Mariana went from being a sympathetic, tragic victim to a hunted, dangerous criminal.
The Boston safehouse was no longer a sanctuary. Outside the grime-covered windows, local police cruisers began patrolling the docks with increasing frequency, their spotlights cutting through the thick coastal fog.

"Mommy," Nico whispered, clutching his small, tattered teddy bear tightly to his chest as he looked out the window.
"Are the bad people from the boat coming to get us again?"
Mariana knelt down, pulling her son into a fierce, protective embrace. "No, sweetie. I promise you, they will never hurt you again.
Mommy is the storm now, and the storm is going to blow their house down."
She knew her time was running out. If she was arrested under the guise of a mental health warrant, she would disappear into a private asylum forever, and the truth would die with her.
She had to drop her nuclear option immediately.
Mariana logged back onto The White Silk profile. This time, she didn't just upload audio.
She uploaded the second segment of the video—a terrifying, unedited thirty-second clip that clearly showed Victoria’s face in high definition, her expression twisted in rage as she slammed her fist down onto Mariana’s fingers, breaking her grip on the yacht's rail.
The caption read: “A mother’s love is supposed to be unconditional. A Salcedo’s love is fatal.
The full, unedited video releasing in exactly 24 hours. Tick-tock, Rodrigo.”

The internet completely shattered. The Facebook algorithm pushed the video to the absolute top of every feed across the globe. Within two hours, it reached fifty million views. The hashtag #JusticeForMariana became the number one trending topic worldwide.
The sheer volume of public outrage was unprecedented; people were protesting outside Salcedo corporate offices.
The local police could no longer protect them, forcing the federal government and the FBI to publicly announce a formal investigation.
But Rodrigo Salcedo was a cornered beast, and a cornered beast knows no mercy. Realizing his empire was on the verge of total collapse, he ordered his private security forces to bypass all legal protocols.

They utilized illegal IMSI-catchers to track the exact cellular tower Mariana’s encrypted burner phone was bouncing off of.
Within forty minutes, they narrowed the signal down to the abandoned warehouse district of the Boston docks. Three armored black SUVs tore through the rainy night, heading straight for her location.
