Chapter 2 - The Billionaire Who Declared War at SeaNobody questioned Richard Harrington.

Not his captain.
Not his security chief.
Not even the veteran sailors who had spent decades navigating storms that swallowed lesser ships.
When Richard gave an order...
The ocean itself seemed expected to obey.
"Full speed."
Captain Marcus Hale hesitated for barely half a second.
"Sir, the waves are over seven meters."
Richard didn't even look at him.
"I didn't ask about the weather."
The captain swallowed.
"Yes, sir."
Within moments, the yacht's massive engines roared louder.
The bow turned sharply against the violent sea.
Furniture shifted slightly inside the cabin as The Sovereign began racing toward the French coastline.
Behind them, Amelia remained wrapped in blankets.
Dr. Samuel Reeves carefully cleaned the cuts on her arms.
Every bruise he uncovered made Eleanor's heart sink a little farther.
Some injuries were fresh.
Some were nearly healed.
Different colors.
Different ages.
Evidence that this hadn't happened once.
It had happened repeatedly.
Eleanor gently held her daughter's trembling hand.
"Why didn't you call us?"
Amelia couldn't answer immediately.
Her lips quivered.
"They took my phone."
Eleanor frowned.
"What?"
"They said..."
Her breathing became uneven.
"...a married woman shouldn't run back to her parents every time she cried."
Another tear rolled down her face.
"They watched everything."
Richard's jaw tightened.
"Everything?"
"They had cameras."
"Inside the house?"
Amelia nodded.
"In my bedroom."
The doctor stopped treating her wounds.
Even Captain Hale, standing near the door, slowly turned around.
Richard's voice dropped lower.
"They recorded you."
"Yes."
"Who installed them?"
"My father-in-law."
Silence.
The only sound was the rain striking the thick glass windows.
Richard slowly walked back toward his daughter.
He crouched beside her.
For a long time...
He simply looked at her.
When Amelia was little, she used to run through his shipping offices wearing oversized captain's hats.
She had insisted every cargo ship belonged to her.
Every sailor had called her "Little Admiral."
She laughed so loudly that entire board meetings stopped just to hear her.
Now...
She barely had the strength to lift her head.
Richard reached into his pocket.
He pulled out an old silver compass.
It had belonged to his own father.
Years ago, he'd given it to Amelia before she left for college.
She had carried it everywhere.
Until her wedding day.
He placed it gently in her hand.
"You remember what I told you?"
Amelia stared at the compass.
Fresh tears filled her eyes.
"'No matter how lost you are...'"
Her voice cracked.
"...always find your way home."
Richard nodded.
"You came home."
She burst into tears.
"I'm sorry."
His face softened.
"For what?"
"I embarrassed the family."
The words hit Eleanor like a knife.
"Oh, sweetheart..."
She immediately pulled Amelia into another embrace.
"You never embarrass us."
Richard closed his eyes.
Someone...
Had taught his daughter that surviving abuse was shameful.
Someone had convinced her that protecting the family's image mattered more than protecting herself.
That realization hurt more than every bruise.
Dr. Reeves finally spoke.
"Mr. Harrington."
Richard looked up.
"I need to tell you something."
"What is it?"
The doctor hesitated.
"I found traces of a sedative."
Richard frowned.
"In her blood?"
"Likely."
Amelia looked confused.
"I've been dizzy for weeks."
The doctor nodded.
"That explains it."
"What does?"
"The bruising."
Everyone looked at him.
"The drug slows reaction time."
"It causes confusion."
"It also affects memory."
Richard's expression darkened.
"You think someone drugged my daughter?"
"I don't think."
The doctor carefully held up the blood sample kit.
"I'm almost certain."
Amelia whispered,
"He always brought me tea before bed."
Richard slowly turned toward her.
"Who?"
"My father-in-law."
Captain Hale's radio suddenly crackled.
"Captain."
He answered immediately.
"Hale."
One of the bridge officers spoke urgently.
"Sir... we're receiving incoming calls."
"From who?"
"Ashcroft Estate."
Richard looked over.
"Put it on speaker."
Seconds later...
Victor Ashcroft's voice filled the cabin.
Calm.
Confident.
Almost amused.
"Richard."
No one answered.
Victor chuckled softly.
"I see your daughter managed to leave."
Richard remained silent.
"I was wondering how long it would take."
Eleanor stared at the speaker in disbelief.
He wasn't worried.
He sounded irritated.
As though Amelia had merely broken a house rule.
Richard finally spoke.
"My daughter says you assaulted her."
Victor sighed dramatically.
"She's emotional."
Richard's eyes became colder.
"She says your son watched."
"Family disagreements happen."
Captain Hale looked horrified.
Victor continued casually.
"Women exaggerate."
That sentence changed everything.
Richard's breathing stopped.
For three long seconds...
Nobody spoke.
Then Richard quietly asked,
"Do you know what my company owns, Victor?"
The older man laughed.
"I know exactly what you own."
Richard smiled.
It wasn't a kind smile.
"We own the port where every one of your ships docks."
Victor fell silent.
"We own the logistics company that insures your cargo."
Still silence.
"We own the fuel contracts that keep your fleet moving."
The smile disappeared from Richard's face.
"And starting tomorrow morning..."
His voice became ice.
"...you won't have any of them."
Victor laughed again.
"You wouldn't destroy two empires over one emotional girl."
Richard looked toward Amelia.
She sat wrapped in blankets, bruised from head to toe, still trembling every time lightning flashed.
He answered without taking his eyes off her.
"You made one mistake tonight."
"Oh?"
"You thought she was only your daughter-in-law."
Richard slowly stood.
His towering figure filled the cabin.
"No."
He said quietly.
"She is my daughter."
He disconnected the call.
Nobody moved.
Captain Hale looked at Richard.
"What are your orders, sir?"
Richard stared out at the violent sea.
Lightning illuminated the waves.
Then he spoke.
"Wake every attorney."
"Call every bank."
"Freeze every joint account."
"Ground every Ashcroft aircraft."
"Divert every Harrington cargo vessel away from their ports."
He paused.
"And send our legal team to the estate."
Captain Hale nodded quickly.
"For a lawsuit?"
Richard slowly looked back at him.
His eyes no longer held grief.
Only absolute resolve.
"No."
"We're not suing them."
He glanced once more at Amelia.
"They declared war on my family."
Another bolt of lightning exploded across the sky.
Richard's voice was barely above a whisper.
May you like
"So now..."
"...I'll sink theirs."
