Chapter 5

It was almost 3:00 a.m. when the bunker locks finally disengaged.

Audrey straightened in her chair despite the pain in her ribs.

The steel door opened.

Adrian entered.

Freezing rain, wet asphalt, gun oil, and chemical smoke seemed to follow him inside.

He was alive.

Uninjured.

That was the first thing Audrey registered.

His movements were fluid. There was no hidden limp or stiffness suggesting a wound.

But he looked exhausted.

Adrian removed his wet tactical jacket.

Then his Kevlar vest.

Then the Glock at his waist, which he placed on a side table.
