Charges Against Top Democrats Are Shocking...

AUSTIN, Texas — April 29, 2026

Republican Governor Greg Abbott has issued a strong ultimatum to Democratic members of the Texas House of Representatives who left the state to prevent a quorum for a redistricting vote.

On Sunday, approximately two dozen Democratic lawmakers flew to Chicago, Illinois, denying the Republican-controlled legislature the 100-member quorum required to conduct business in the 150-member House.

The House is scheduled to reconvene at 3 p.m. Monday.

Governor Abbott stated that any member who fails to return by the deadline will be removed from office under Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382.

He also raised the possibility of criminal charges, saying that Democrats who solicited or received gifts to offset fines for their absence may have violated bribery laws, which are second-degree felonies in Texas.

Abbott declared he would use full extradition authority to return any potential out-of-state felons to Texas.

He criticized the lawmakers’ departure, saying “Real Texans don’t flee from a battle” and that they had chosen to deprive the House of the ability to conduct business on urgent legislation affecting all Texans.
